DEEP COVE OUTDOOR EDUCATION
News Letter July 2021
Please pass the following information onto the relevant teachers in your school. With so many major changes happening in Deep Cove it’s important staff are up to date with developments.
BUILDINGS
Visitors will observe a huge improvement to the main hostel building as the Deep Cove Trust has spent approximately $300.000 on the foundations of the building to prevent any problems due to the subsidence of the ground beneath the common room and the upstairs flat. Plans for major refurbishment are proposed once funding becomes available. However schools are once again being accommodated in the main Hostel Building. Our thanks for the way schools who had to relocate while the work was carried out, managed the inconvenience.
SCHOOL VISITS:

MARINE STUDIES. All of the equipment required for the marine studies can be found in the fishing shed. If there are any breakages or any items are lost or found missing please advise the Hostel Manager ASAP so that the next class does not miss out.
EDUCATION HUB This new building is proving to be a winner. It is still under development at the present time. Currently two microscopes, a digital TV and two touch screen monitors are available for your use. WALKING TRACKS Hopefully all of the tracks have been repaired but there may still be a small problem where the wooden stairs have been washed out on the Old Doubtful Sound track. Care should be taken to follow any direction indicators in this area. If in doubt, discuss this area with the manager prior to leaving the hostel.
NATURE GUIDES The nature guides are proving to be an exciting initiative for schools. Please contact Laura Dawson at Real Journeys to discuss how they can be of assistance and when prior to going to camp.
